1. Scope and standards
These rules apply to Jiya profiles, names, photos, messages, interactions and other material shared through the service. They also guide support reports and appeals. Users remain responsible for their conduct, must meet the adult eligibility rule and must respect other people’s consent, dignity, privacy and safety.
This document sets the policy for receiving, assessing and acting on concerns. It does not represent that every message is read before delivery, that every profile has been identity-verified, or that a particular automated system guarantees detection. Restrictions and review measures should reflect the actual features, available evidence, severity and applicable legal duties.
2. Prohibited content and conduct
- Minors and exploitation: accounts operated by or for people below the minimum age; child sexual abuse or exploitation; grooming; trafficking; or facilitating contact that endangers a minor.
- Explicit sexual material: pornography, explicit nudity or sexual acts in images, videos or other content, and sexually suggestive solicitation or promotion.
- Non-consensual intimate material: intimate images or recordings without valid consent, sexual blackmail, threats to publish private material, covert recordings and sexualised impersonation or manipulated intimate media.
- Sexual services and transactional relationships: prostitution, escort or sexual-service solicitation, arrangements exchanging money or material benefit for sexual or romantic access, and trafficking or coercion.
- Harassment and threats: stalking, coercion, repeated unwanted contact, sexual harassment, credible threats, extortion and encouragement of violence or self-harm.
- Hate and discrimination: dehumanising attacks, threats or exclusionary abuse based on protected characteristics, including ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation or disability.
- Fraud and impersonation: romance or financial scams, phishing, malicious links, requests for credentials or one-time codes, deceptive identities, stolen photos and misleading claims of official affiliation.
- Privacy violations: publishing another person’s contact details, precise whereabouts, identity documents, financial information or private conversations without a lawful basis or appropriate consent.
- Illegal or harmful material: unlawful goods or services, criminal facilitation, terrorism or violent extremism, malware and other content prohibited by applicable law.
- Spam and manipulation: bulk unsolicited promotion, automated abuse, deceptive solicitation, ban evasion and coordinated false reports.
- Misuse of profiles: using a profile to mislead people about the person they are interacting with, or using another person’s image or identity without authority.
Consent to a conversation is not consent to intimate material, continued contact or sharing a conversation elsewhere. Stop when someone declines or withdraws consent. Do not send money, financial credentials or sensitive information to someone you have not independently verified.
3. How to report and protect yourself
Use the app’s available reporting and blocking controls. You may also email [email protected] with “Jiya — Safety report” in the subject; for a child safety concern use “Jiya — Underage / Child safety report”. The email route is available if you cannot sign in or find the relevant account.
- Identify the account, profile or content using a member identifier or available link.
- State the category of concern, what happened and when. Explain any immediate safety concern.
- Provide only relevant evidence that you are entitled to share. Do not send passwords, one-time codes, unnecessary identity documents or suspected child sexual abuse images.
- Provide a reply address if you want follow-up. Keep any reference received for later correspondence or appeal.
Blocking is a user protection measure; it does not replace reporting conduct that may harm others. Avoid further contact with a suspected scammer or harasser. Do not publicly identify a suspected minor or organise retaliation. If danger is immediate, use local emergency or law-enforcement services.
4. Receipt, assessment and investigation
- Receive and classify: identify the reported account or content, the relevant rule, the urgency and any applicable legal category.
- Protect and preserve: consider proportionate interim restrictions and preserve relevant records where lawful and necessary, especially for child safety, intimate-image abuse, threats or a legal order.
- Assess: examine the report, available service records and relevant context; request necessary clarification without requiring the reporter to obtain unlawful material.
- Decide and act: determine the appropriate content or account measure, record the reason and apply legally required measures.
- Notify and review: provide an appropriate outcome or notice where permitted, and make an appeal route available.
A report does not by itself establish a violation. Decisions should consider the evidence and context, including consent, credible safety risks, repeated conduct and attempts to evade restrictions. The policy does not promise a particular detection technology or continuous real-time inspection of every interaction.
5. Possible measures
Depending on severity, recurrence, available evidence and legal obligations, measures may include a warning, request to correct a profile, removal or restriction of content, limits on messaging or discovery, a temporary suspension, account removal, restrictions on replacement accounts, or referral in response to lawful authority. Serious or urgent harm may justify immediate protective action without a prior warning.
Content removal and account deletion are different actions. Some records may need to be preserved for safety, appeals, legal retention or claims after content is no longer visible. Restrictions should not be treated as proof of criminal liability, and a service review is not a substitute for an investigation by competent authorities.
6. Outcome information and confidentiality
Where permitted and practicable, a person affected by a decision should receive the relevant rule, the general action taken and how to seek review. A reporter may receive a summary rather than another user’s private account details. We may limit information when disclosure would expose a child, identify a reporter, compromise an investigation, aid evasion or conflict with legal restrictions.
Reports and evidence must be handled for safety assessment, response, review and lawful obligations, with access limited to the relevant function. Do not assume a report is a confidential emergency channel or a legally privileged communication. Requests concerning report data may be sent to the privacy contact.
7. Appeals and correction of errors
Email [email protected] with “Jiya — Moderation appeal” in the subject. Include your member identifier, any decision or report reference, the action disputed and a concise explanation of why it should be reviewed. New, relevant evidence may be included where it can be shared lawfully. Do not resend prohibited intimate material or create another account to bypass a restriction.
A review should reassess the decision against the rules and evidence, correct a material error where found, and explain the outcome to the extent disclosure is permitted. A restriction may remain in place while review is pending, particularly where safety or law requires it. If the decision is upheld, applicable statutory complaint or judicial remedies remain available.
8. Complaints subject to Indian intermediary rules
Where the Indian Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, as amended, apply to a service or request, their requirements govern the relevant handling. The following distinguishes legal categories; it is not a single response promise for every support email:
| Applicable category | Relevant legal timing / action |
|---|---|
| Ordinary grievance under rule 3(2)(a) | Acknowledge within 24 hours and resolve within 7 days, subject to the rule’s terms. |
| Specified removal complaints under the proviso to rule 3(2)(a) | The designated categories under rule 3(1)(b) are to be resolved within 36 hours, as specified in the rules. |
| Rule 3(2)(b): private-area exposure, nudity, sexual acts or impersonation including artificially morphed images | On the qualifying complaint by the individual or a person acting on their behalf, take all reasonable and practicable measures to remove or disable access within 2 hours. |
| Qualifying court or government order / notification under rule 3(1)(d) | Remove or disable access within 3 hours as prescribed by the applicable rule and lawful process. |
The applicable trigger, scope, legal exceptions and required measures are determined by the rules and the facts of the request. A lawfully applicable shorter period takes priority over an ordinary complaint workflow. Reports of imminent harm, child exploitation and intimate-image abuse should be prioritised. Refer to the MeitY — Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, updated 10 February 2026 for the controlling text and current amendments.
Use the support and privacy contacts below for the relevant service concern. Your rights to use an applicable statutory grievance appeal mechanism or seek assistance from a competent authority are preserved.
9. Personal data, changes and related policies
Send only the information needed to locate and assess a concern. Do not include report contents, identity evidence or chat material in advertising links or event data. The website does not send these materials to its Meta Pixel. See personal data and deletion requests for how to contact the privacy function.
These guidelines take effect on 2026-10-29. Updated rules will be published with a revised date. Continued investigation or an appeal should take account of the rule relevant to the conduct and applicable legal obligations. Read the Age and Child Safety Policy for underage reports and the Privacy Policy for processing information.
